In the valley of the shadow of the groundhog http://www.blamehenry.com/theory/blog/entry.php?id=223 Fri, 29 Feb 2008 23:22:59 -0500 Happy February 29 leap day. It is like another day added to your life for free, courtesy of Julius Caesar. A free day added to your life in the most miserable time of year. Hoorj.

Sometimes people think I am always being funny, only not very funny. These people are wrong.

I am always deathly serious in everything I say. As serious as death. Some think that death is the most serious thing that can happen to you.

Some regard it rather capriciously. I'm not sure where on the spectrum I am. But wherever I am, that is how serious I am.

I am probably in the whimsical band of the spectrum. I place great emphasis on whimsy. Others before me have also placed great emphasis on whimsy, saying: What's important in life is not just a sense of humour; a sense of humour is nice, but it's a sense of whimsy that's important; a sense of whimsy in life.—If someone asked me: What is a number one important life-attribute? I would say: Whimsy. And I would be deathly serious.

College kids are so childish http://www.blamehenry.com/theory/blog/entry.php?id=222 Sun, 24 Feb 2008 22:10:59 -0500 It snowed, so after school, when I went out to play, I built a snowman outside my dorm. He had a plump round figure and little sticks for arms. It was goodtimes.

The next day, some punks came and knocked my snowman down. I'm just like, what's up with that? You're in college, for crying out loud, you punks. Grow up a little already.

Fuzz artist page http://www.blamehenry.com/theory/blog/entry.php?id=221 Fri, 15 Feb 2008 17:22:26 -0500 Hey everybody. I got a profile at Fuzz.com. Check it out if you want to. If you like it, you can join the website and add me as a favorite. Even if you don't like it, you might at least have some pity on me. It's not like I ever did anything to hurt you, right? Fuzz actually seems pretty cool though, so you could also join the site and find excellent bands that are still mostly underground but not add me as a favorite. Jerk.

Cocaine Aeroplane http://www.blamehenry.com/theory/blog/entry.php?id=220 Sat, 02 Feb 2008 00:16:54 -0500 I was bored one night so I took a walk on short Vine. Then one time I was bored so I made this song. Now I decided to call the project "sorta finished" because I am bored with editing it, even though it's still got a heap of problems. This song is about being bored, because you're a bum.

—> Cocaine Aeroplane (160kbps) <—

My uncle gave me a fantastic mic, and this is the first song I've posted since I started using it. It's an AudioTechnica ribbon mic, and it sounds golden. Unfortunately, this is a very bad song to show off the mic with, because much of the vocal mix is cranked up and squished through a fuzz effect. Plus at a lot of times there are too many other sounds crowded in with the vocals. Additionally, the vocal performance is something of a disappointment, though at least my poor singing was recorded very well. It is what it is. But I'll upload something to better show off the mic later, just because I love it so.

It's kinda cool that this site doesn't get much traffic, because I don't have to worry about running out of bandwidth when I post songs.

Timed writing #1 - The pebbles taste like popcorn (Act II Butter Lover's) http://www.blamehenry.com/theory/blog/entry.php?id=219 Fri, 01 Feb 2008 22:47:44 -0500 Begin 22:15 EST, official U.S. time.

Demosthenes was an ancient greek who became a famous ancient greek orator. He wasn't always a famous ancient greek orator, though. The first time he tried to be a famous ancient greek orator, he was ridiculed. The other ancient greeks seriously hated on his style. Plus, he had a speech impediment as a child. Nonetheless, he somehow exhibited a good deal of potential, and several nice folks encouraged him. With a little help from his friends, he eventually succeeded in becoming a famous ancient greek orator. It took hard work. To overcome his speech impediment, he practised such things as orating with pebbles in his mouth.

I have taken note of the essential qualities of Demosthenes' story, and I asked the question, How is this applicable to me to day? Then I learned that what I suck at is writing timed essays. So I will practise writing timed essays with pebbles in my mouth.

That will do for an introduction. On to Point #1.

Transition sentence. Point #2. I recall, even in my early days, taking note of that experience of drawing some lovely figures in ink with the help of structural lines drawn in pencil, and then erasing the pencil lines. You know, like horizons and vanishing points and all that junk. What got me was that irrefutable, visual and tactile thrill of erasing the dumpy graphite marks, dusting the eraser crud off the paper, and observing that image transformed from some shaky, propped-up thing into a crispy delight. Sometimes I would draw the pencil lines with the help of a straightedge or a stencil or something. I am no artist though. I hear that the artists in DAAP have to learn how to draw perfectly straight lines and perfectly circular circles with their bare hands. When they are in the professional world, they can't be weighed down with a ruler, their instructors say. (I didn't make this up.) The instructors also warn them against using a straightedge on the sly, saying, I can tell if someone did it by hand or used a ruler. Duh. Because when you use a ruler, the line is actually straight. The point is, I never experienced that same kind of visual and tactile pleasure in my experiences with writing—I get no thrill of knocking out the supports and seeing my essay words hanging crisply on the page, kicking and living. Despite this, it is still necessary to quickly and effectively create structures for your words, and to lay the ink over these structures accurately and precisely. Otherwise, you could easily wind up with rambling and irrelevant passages.

I'm running out of time. I hate that part where you are just like, O crap, I am running out of time. How much time do I have left? 3 minutes? Jeepers. What was I just about to write? ... 2 and a half minutes? Yikes. Now? 2 minutes and 20 seconds. Wow, there it goes, eh. Just 2 more minutes, huh?

I also hate it when your teacher's watch is two minutes fast, but that's another matter.

End 22:45 EST.
